Prosecutor demands jury trial for federal suit

Ray County Prosecuting Attorney Camille A. Johnston has filed a civil petition through her attorney, Chad G. Gardner, demanding a jury trial against James E. Murray and his business, Star Investigations LLC. The court documents cite three counts, including violation of the Driver Privacy Protection Act (DPPA), defamation and intrusion into seclusion. “The United States has long recognized privacy as a fundamental constitutional right entitled to protection from encroachment by the states under the fourth and fourteenth amendments and other protections inherent in the Bill of Rights,” the document states in the introduction. “To enforce those rights, the federal government has adopted a strict approach to protect privacy interests.
