Richmond netters double dual win total
Brett Terry did not have to wait long to get his second dual win as Richmond’s boys tennis coach.
On April 27, also Senior Night, the Spartans edged Carrollton 5-4 at Maurice Roberts Park – 15 days after they had cruised past Cameron 8-1 to get Terry victory No. 1. Coincidentally, that win was at Maurice Roberts Park, too.
“Definitely exciting to come down to one match and get the ‘Dub,’” Terry said.
Brody Burnine, a first-year high schooler, sealed the victory by defeating Jacob Lyon 8-5 in No. 5 singles. Leading 6-5, Burnine claimed the final two games by “just making sure my serves were in and being able to slow it down get … the majority of my shots in and … (trying) to just break down my opponent and play the long game,” he said.
Watching Burnine’s victory “was exciting,” Terry said.
“Last time (April 11 at Carrollton), he had a fairly close match with the kid,” he said. “He lost 6-8, so it was good to turn that around. I told the boys not to tell him that it was the…
