Decades ago, when I was high school – or perhaps junior high – I heard from at least one source that one can’t love inanimate objects. If memory serves, I first heard that from Richmond schoolmate and hardcore Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan Mark Moyer (may he rest in peace).
But one can love inanimate objects. I was reminded of that on a rainy April morning in the Richmond city gym.
As I’ve often mentioned, I play pickleball with a group of Excelsior Springs and Richmond-ish folks, when my schedule and body permit. Usually, we play in the city gym. For several months, however, we couldn’t do that because a new floor was being installed and other renovations were being made.
