The Orrick varsity boys track team achieved a longtime goal Monday at Sweet Springs: It won the I-70 Conference title. Orrick won the boys portion of the meet, hosted by St. Paul Lutheran of Concordia, with 126.5 points – 12 points ahead of runner-up Lone Jack. Coincidentally, the margin separating Orrick and Lone Jack was the same as 2023, when Lone Jack took first and the Bearcats finished second. The finish gave the Orrick boys their first conference title in 16 years, according to Orrick coach Kirk Thacker, a Richmond High School alumnus. “Lots and lots of hard work by the team,” Thacker stated Wednesday via text message. “Guess you could call it our revenge tour. (The) boys were motivated all year to face off with Lone Jack at this meet. We got the lead early in the day, but had to nickel and dime them to the end.
