For two Thursdays and Fridays in April, business at the Snack Shack at Sunrise Elementary School in Richmond was booming. On those days, the Sunrise Student Council served their friends and teachers. “We sold drinks, candy, chips – things that kids like,” said Julie Hyder, a Sunrise-based social worker. The students ordered T-shirts to offer, too, but they didn’t receive them in time. The students performed well and were thrilled to be serving, according to Hyder. In fact, they performed well enough to make $400. They then donated the money to the Humane Society of Ray County (HSRC) for its SNIP program.
